Low Volume is a trend in design, using low contrast, natural colors with a limited soft palette and muted pattern. Interest and contrast is introduced by texture, focus, space, and other design basics.
Low Volume seems an unlikely turn for Color Modern. But, it's an exploration of color! There is no bad color! It's all about amount and context.
The above photo was taken on a cold, damp, dour day. My mood matched the weather.
Running errands and feeling bleak, realized that I have not visited The River, since...when??? For those not inclined to read back stories, The River is the Cuyahoga River, which runs through my neighborhood and feels like home. This particular River, of incendiary infamy, runs crooked and south, through industrial scape and hairpins it's jagged journey north, to empty into The Lake.
The River is a metaphor for growth and change. The Cuyahoga River has cleaned up its act, changed its flow rate, and found new purpose. It continues to stimulate innovative and creative use along its banks.
On the Bleak Day, I visited with The River.
The River had other, surging concerns. El Nino's unseasonable warmth and rains swelled River to roaring torrents fluming its banks. My River Love does not extend to stupid risks.
I paid my respects and marveled at River's majesty, grace, and purpose.
Walking away from River, looking North on a chilly gray day, the Winter Marsh appeared. The interplay of colors and textures. The rolling layers. Context and contrast. No filter or cropping needed.
Beauty in Simplicity.
Happy 2016! May your year be filled with the rejuvenating powers of Beauty, Grace, and Simplicity.
