Golden Hour, a collection of my bog images curated for the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) 2016 Fabric Design Challenge.
I'm learning to loathe that question. I don't have a lengthy Art Speak or Retrospective Catalog worthy answer.
I go outdoors to uncomfortable places.
Take many, many images of whatever looks interesting. Bonus if the subject is ugly or unassuming: moss....rotting bark....stinking vernal pools.
Allow the images to ferment/ age/ moulder.
Randomly pull from fermenting stock.
Play. Yes. Play.
The best or most interesting images are those produced from Play. Experimenting with the image and editing. No predetermined objectives. Exploration. Pushing the image further to see what is possible. Discover the limitations.
Add a healthy dose of humor.
Golden Hour Collection was created from two images: one of the mossy bog undergrowth and close up of bog birch tree bark bruise.
It's not what you view, but how you see it.
